Somerset clubs are being encouraged to help inspire a generation by getting involved in the 2019 Cricket World Cup (CWC 2019).
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) wants clubs to ‘be part of something bigger’ by applying to become a Cricket World Cup Club.
The initiative is designed to help them connect with their local community and bring the excitement of the World Cup into their clubhouse.
The ICC and ECB aim to engage 1 million kids throughout the tournament – which is being staged in England and Wales for the first time in 20 years.
To support this, Cricket World Cup Clubs are being asked to run a weekend of family-based activity to get more kids involved in the game and showcase themselves to a wider audience. Suggested events range from kids’ coaching sessions to parent/child matches, or ‘bring a friend’ days.
Clubs who apply will have access to official CWC 2019 marketing material to promote their event and lead volunteer’s or “Cricket World Cup Champions” will receive official World Cup merchandise to reward them for their efforts.
The weekend of Friday June 7 to Sunday June 9 will be the focus weekend for celebrations however club family days can take place over a ny World Cup weekend (May 30-July 14).
Register your club at the Cricket World Cup Website (external link).
In addition, a Cricket World Cup Club Fund has been launched with at least the first 2,000 affiliated clubs who have registered as a World Cup Club, having the opportunity to receive £1,000 to help digitise or upgrade catering facilities. The Fund has been set up to help Clubs install new broadband, boost their clubhouse’s audio-visual capabilities, or transform their catering facilities to assist with their CWC 2019 family day.
