A 2020 season which teetered on the brink of oblivion ended with over 80 fixtures played within women’s and girls’ friendly match play programmes.

The prolonged good weather, plus some great work by the ECB in allowing cricket to be the first team sport resume, allowed for a shortened season with minimal disruption. Things were never going to be perfect, but they ran smoothly enough to ensure a window of opportunity didn’t go to waste.

There were some notable performances, especially from Taunton Deane ladies hard ball section, who conquered Devon by winning the Devon Women Cricket League’s Super 8 competition.

Frustratingly, we were unable to implement our plans to grow female hard-ball sections across the county or to drive increases in girls’ sections at clubs due to the pandemic. We are, of course grateful that we were able to get cricket played at all this summer and our plans to significantly grow the female game in Somerset will just have to wait for a few more months…

Please find below some pictures from the season and also some links to testimonies from some of our clubs as to why starting female cricket at your club is a great idea!
